Our Perfect Fuerteventura Itinerary in 10 days

We are a group of friends that wanted to discover the most authentic part of Fuerteventura at summer time. Hope you like our Fuerteventura Itinerary it as much as we did.

Day 1: Arrival to Corralejo

We checked in our Airbnb and discovered a little bit the Corralejo area, which is super cool!

Day 2: Corralejo

We spent the morning in Corralejo and in the afternoon we took the car to visit Corralejo dunes, there we spent the afternoon on a beautiful beach called Playa del Moro, which was super windy though. That’s why we took the car and we drove to the south making some stops along an amazing volcanic landscape.

Finally, we made it to the sunset time in the dunes with some fresh beers!

Day 3: North-East Fuerteventura

We started the day in Los Molinos de Betancuria, it’s also a great spot for sunset.

Our next stop was several viewpoints. We made a quick stop in Tindaya mountain, which was not really spectacular, probably for the clouds. Then we made a quick trail from Mirador de Guise y Ayuse up to that mountain.

For lunch, we stopped in Betancuria town. We took the beautiful panoramic car road between Pájara and Betancuria, you will do several stops with nice views of Betancuria.

We then went to the beachside to Playa de Garcey, where an old boat got stuck in the sea (we were only able to see a little part of the boat). And to a cave on La Solapa beach. We wanted to go to Punta de la cueva La Ballena but didn’t find it. We went left instead and find this one thanks to local advice. It was sooo deep!

We finally returned making a stop in Mirador Astronómico de Sicasumbre, where we were able to watch a nice sunset.

Day 4: El Cotillo

In El Cotillo you will find the finest beaches, we loved La Concha beach for its clean water. Near La Concha, there is Los Lagos, where you can swim between one and another and it’s a great spot for snorkeling too!

A great spot in El Cotillo was finding a hidden natural pool, just go to the end of the rocks near La Concha beach and you will find it. We had lunch in El Roque de Los Pescadores, which we recommend for fish. Ask for the fish of the day! Nevertheless, if you only have 1 day, go to La Vaca Azul.

We spend the afternoon in Caleta del Marrajo. A real paradise. Sometimes it’s difficult to find a place with no wind in Fuerteventura, so we appreciated discovering this place, which was also not really touristy. In my opinion, it’s the best beach of the Fuerteventura Itinerary. Another option was to go also to Playa de la EscaleraEsquinzoTebetoPlaya de la Mujer, and Jarugo, but we decided to stay in Caleta del Marrajo for a chill afternoon. I think we would have gone there if we had more days.

Cotillo is also well-known for its spectacular sunsets, so after a nice Aperol in the Sottovento terrasse, we saw the sun go down from El Cotillo Beach and our ukulele.

Day 5: Cofete

1st stop: Esquinzo beach. We 100% recommend you to stop at Esquinzo beach for an early lunch before going to the wild Cofete, as you will find nothing to eat there. It’s also a great spot for a swim with amazingly clear water.

The restaurant is great, also with great prices, is called Atalaya. Ask for the dishes of the day, we especially loved Puntillas de Calamar and Papas al Mojo (the best on the island).

With a lot of water and food in the car, we went to Cofete. It’s a hard road to get there, but it’s 100% worth it. We stopped in Punta de Jandia’s lighthouse, which was not really impressive (personal opinion), and followed the road until Cofete beach making the stops in the viewpoints.

We wanted to go to Roque del Moro, but the road was impossible without a 4X4, and we preferred not to do the hike until Roque del Moro, but the one in Cofete was 100% worth it. Nevertheless, I think it would have been better to not go to Punta de Jandia but to Roque del Moro, which also has a great natural pool and great sunset views.

Once we arrived in Playa el Cofete we walked until El Islote, which was 2h go and return, where you are able to see both beaches El Cofete and Barlovento from a big rock and… a lot of fish in the area! El Islote was, for us, the best spot in Fuerteventura, and no crowd at all.

It’s sunset time, and we wanted to make it from Mirador de Los Canarios. The thing is that it was super cloudy in the mountains, and we were afraid not to watch them from up there. That’s why we decided to watch it from Playa Los Ojos. From there, we went to a hidden cave (for me the best cave in Fuerteventura). To get there, check the location here.

TIP N.1: Important fact if you travel to Fuerteventura: check the tide. Going to that cave was risky. If you manage to go in low tide AND on a day when the tide goes more down, the better.

Day 6: Isla de Lobos

We took the speed water taxi at 9:30h in Corralejo and went to La Isla de Lobos. We did the trail up to the lighthouse, stopping at La Concha beach, and then stayed in the lagoons of El Puertito.

For snorkeling, we went from El Puertito to the open sea and then close to the harbor because a local told us it’s the best spot

Day 7: Sotavento and Costa Calma

The first stop we made was in Caleta de Fuste. There is a natural pool we wanted to go to, but due to tide, we were not able to see it. If you click here, you have the exact location through Google Maps.

After this quick stop, we went direct south again to Playa Esquinzo and Playa Butihondo, this time to surf and have lunch again at Atalaya! Haha Nevertheless, I recommend you to surf in El Cotillo or Corralejo dunes if you are just starting.

I don’t get why it’s called Costa Calma, because all of that area was suuuuper windy. We stopped in Risco del PasoPlaya de la Barca and Playa de Sotavento de Jandía. Again, it’s important to check the tide of the day before, as the landscape changes absolutely.

With high tide, you will be able to see the little lakes of Sotavento.

We visited Costa CalmaTaralejo and Gran Tajal. We especially liked the last one for its amazing black sand beach.

Finally, we stopped by Las Salinas del Carmen and watched the sunset from there.

Day 8: East Fuerteventura

My favorite day. We woke up to see the sunrise from Playa de Corralejo Viejo before starting our road trip of the day.

Arriving to Ajuy, there is a hike up to Arco de las Peñitas. You can easily get lost so make sure to have the Wikiloc trail able to guide you offline. It takes 2h to go and return approx and loved that spot. Also, we were the only ones up there, which made it more awesome :) We highly recommend you do this little hike on a Fuerteventura itinerary.

We then went to Ajuy for its caves and black sand beach. Make sure you go inside the cave and cross a big rock to a hidden 2nd cave. If you want you can also manage to go to the end of the 1st cave which has a secret exit.

We ate some sandwiches in the cave and then went to Cueva de Herminia, located in El Puertito de Los Molinos. Again, the tide made it impossible to get there hahaha. It was because this week the tide was too high and it was too risky to visit all the week!

Nevertheless, the beach is super nice and clean and has a lot of natural pools!

Tip n.2: bring river shoes! It’s super useful almost every day, especially to get to all the natural pools. Tip n.3: Bring snorkel stuff! Tip n.4: Bring cash to buy in the bars.

The natural pools of Puerto de Los Molinos are amazing for snorkeling, especially the one that is most far away from the beach. That’s one of our MUSTS for a perfect Fuerteventura Itinerary.

It is a great spot if you want to try the local foodlapas. Nevertheless, there were just 2 restaurants that only accepted cash, and the kitchen was closed at 6 pm (we wanted to make a couple of tapas).

Finally, we wanted to see the sunset in Calderón Hondo, close to our house in Corralejo. Nevertheless, although Google Maps said that the car could arrive at the crater, it was not possible and needed to walk 5km approx. to get to Calderón Hondo. So, as it was starting to get late, we went to buy some traditional and handmade cheese in “Abuelo Prudencio”. Those are quite cheap and are suuuper good!

Day 9: relax in Corralejo

In our last day, we spent the morning on a Corralejo beach called Playa Puerto del Remedio.

In the afternoon, we went for an early dinner in El Cotillo at La Vaca Azul, which is just an amazing restaurant with wonderful fish, great views of a caleta and sunset, a terrace, and great service.

Day 10: time to go back to Barcelona!

Hope you liked our itinerary and wish you the best in your Fuerteventura trip! Would you like to visit other islands of the Canary Islands? Check our La Palma itinerary.
